Today I wanted to make a black and white card with just a splash of color…

Whenever I think of black and white I always reach for papers from the Newsprint pack of Designer Series Papers because they make it so easy to create something with this color scheme…and to keep it simple I decided to use one large stamp that I found in the gorgeous Elements of Style stamp set…

Isn’t that stamp stunning?  By using a large stamp and patterned paper as your background it takes no time at all to create a card – and this was such a quick and easy card to make and I love to have a stack of cards on hand for thank you’s and this is easily a candidate for that…

The base is simply Basic Black onto which I layered my piece of Newsprint DSP and wrapped around a piece of the beautiful Victoria Crochet Trim on top.  Then I stamped my image using Black ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock and cut to size – I matted it onto a piece of Basic Black and then onto my card base using Dimensionals – easy as pie!

Now you could leave your card like that – simple and elegant – but I wanted to add a splash of red to mine and so I took the sentiment ‘Life is a matter of moments’ from the same stamp set and stamped it using Cherry Cobbler Ink onto Vanilla cardstock and then punched it out using my Oval Punch – I used the same punch to punch out a piece of black cardstock and attached it just behind my sentiment to give a little peek of a mat.

For a finishing touch I added a Cherry Cobbler Button from Regals Designer Buttons and threaded through some embroidery floss – and there is one quick and easy card that is perfect for batch-making.

    Sarah,

This is simply stunning! I LOVE the floral with the newsprint… I have gone back and forth on whether or not I like the newsprint DSP and this card definitely puts me one step closer to liking it! And I love how simple it is – not just to look at but how simple it is to make! I’m always discouraged when I see people post beautiful cards that require 3/4 of a page of supplies AND some complicated technique! Thanks for sharing this beautiful and simplistic card!

    Hugs,

This is a gorgeous card – the black and ivory is perfect together, and the red button is just the right accent.
