Yes, sunflower seeds – they make a great embellishment and the recipient can take them out of the card to plant them to bring some summer cheer – it’s the card that keeps on giving smiles!

I’ve had a packet of seeds in my craft room for a while now and being another lovely spring day here in Texas, I dug them out and finally got around to using them…

My photo doesn’t do this card justice – the colors in real life are brighter and more cheery but the light in my room wasn’t complying today!  My card uses Rose Red and Very Vanilla cardstocks along with some beautiful Designer Series Papers…

My background green patterned paper is from Springtime Vintage DSP and the ruled paper that my flower is sitting on is from Botanical Gazette DSP – both packs are featured in the Occasions Mini Catalog.

My flower?  Quick and easy to make using my Big Shot and Fun Flowers Bigz L Die that is on pg 39 of the Occasions Mini – I cut 3 flowers from 3 different papers – 1 from Rose Red cardstock, I from Pink Pirouette cardstock and my top layer from a piece of paper from Sweet & Sour Speciality DSP (pg 172)…this die features 3 beautiful flowers that you can layer together using paper or fabric – it’s my new favorite die!

I punched holes in the center each flower using my 1 3/4″ Circle Punch and inserted a Sweet Treats Cup – you can find these Treat Cups on pg 170 and they come in a circle or heart shape – a great way to add some candy or other treats like my sunflower seeds to your cards.

I layered my flower die cuts on top of one another and secured them together with Mini Glue Dots which are the perfect size – I then curled the petals of each upwards to give a cute layered look, as you can see below…click on the photo for a closer look…

Finishing touches?  I trimmed the bottom edge of my vanilla mat using my Scallop Edge Border Punch and made a shape for my sentiment to peek through using my Modern Label Punch – you can see that by using Dimensionals you can create a real framed look for your sentiments.

My sentiment?  From the sweet set Bold Blossom, also featured in the Occasions Mini on pg 31 -I used my Early Espresso Marker to color just two words that I wanted to use and stamped it – easy as that!

When using a Sweet Treats Cup on your card and having the portrait format I have above be sure to give it more stability by making the fold at the top and not the side to  ensure that your card will not topple forward – to do so, cut your cardstock to be 4 1/4″ x 11″ and make your center score line at 5 1/2″.

I used lots of products from the Occasions Mini on this card – want a printed copy of the Occasions Mini Catalog? Simply click here to email me your US mailing address and I will get one out to you FAST – PLUS I’ll include a copy of the Sale-a-bration Catalog too!
