Most of our friends have kids our age and I rarely get the chance to shop for baby things anymore…sniff…

But finally that opportunity has come along and I had the delight of making a ‘hello baby’ card at last – and finally a boy one too!!!  And so I grabbed the cute stamp set Zoo Babies that features EIGHT cute animals and two sentiments and got to work…

Here is what I came up with…

Is that cute or what?!  LOVE that elephant and he is so easy to stamp nice & clearly and first time, with the fabulous firm foam ink pads!!!

The card base…is simply Whisper White…I tried layering but decided on a simple base to highlight that elephant and the polka dotted paper…

The patterned strip…I cut a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock to be 5 1/2″ x 1 7/8″ tand onto it I layered a cute piece of paper from Fresh Prints DSP (pg 33 Occasions Catalog) – I just LOVE how that paper fits right into my baby theme!

The elephant…the elephant is from the set Zoo Babies (pg 74) and I stamped him in Coastal Cabana Ink onto a piece of Whisper White…I wanted to make him stand out and decided on a kind of film strip, framed look…

The frame…I cut a square of Crumb Cake cardstock and using a die from Circles Collection Framelits (pg 186) cut a circle…I then paper pierced a circle around it which was SUPER EASY to do using the Essentials Paper Piercing Pack that has a template in it to enable you to pierce perfect circles in lots of different sizes!!!

And to make this even more easy, I used my Paper Piercing Tool plus Mat to give seamless results…all of these items can be found on pg 179 or online by clicking HERE – AND to make this easier still, if you use a couple of pieces of masking tape to secure your template before you pierce, it won’t move around and your piercing will be right first time, every time…

Once my frame was pierced, I cut it to the size I wanted it to be and added it over my elephant using Dimensionals for that 3-D look.

SARAH’S TIP:  you know the edge & corner bits on a sheet of Dimensionals – the non-hexagonal bits?  Can you believe that I used to throw them away?!  Until I found out that they are just PERFECT for a job like this!  The corner pieces are perfect for getting right into that frame corner, and those thin edge bits are perfect on the narrow bits for ensuring a flat professional finish – see what I mean from the photo below…

The ribbons…I wrapped around a piece of Crumb Cake 1/2″ Seam Binding (pg 173) and secured it to the back of the strip with tape.  I then cut another smaller piece along with a piece of Coastal Cabana 3/8″ Ruffled Stretch Trim (pg 173) the same size, and tied both together around that ‘anchor’ piece to give me a nice two-tone knot.

The tag…I stamped the words ‘hello baby’ using a stamp from the set Teeny Tiny Wishes (pg 44) and Soft Suede Ink and then punched it out using the 1″ Circle Punch (pg 182).

The finishing touch…I made a small hole in my tag and threaded through a piece of Linen Thread (pg 173) and tied it to the ribbon knot.

I loved the card so much that I decided to make a co-ordinating Gift Tag to go with it…I used the same supplies, the only difference being the sentiment on this tag which is a stamp that is included in that set Zoo Babies…CUTE, eh?

What a super sweet project to work on – I just love how both items turned out and hope I get to make more baby cards soon!
