Jar Full of Spiders for Halloween!

I found these adorable spiders in a gallery on Splitcoast – they were designed by Julie Case and I just had to make some of my own – they are such a perfect way to give halloween treats (each spider has a peppermint patty in it) and I am sure will bring smiles to the faces of all who will receive them – aren’t they adorable? :-)

The big jar is a perfect size to contain them and I thought I would put a layer of Hershey Kisses in the bottom for the ‘soil’ for the spiders to crawl on – then I made lots more to creep around outside of the jar – they are going to be teacher gifts and I will package them in small glass jars secured with ribbons to keep ‘em from crawling out before they get to school…but I thought I would photograph them in their natural environment, the garden, first :-)

They are so simple and fun to make – using your Scallop Circle Punch you make the body of the spider using Basic Black cardstock…then using the Photo Corners Punch you make the legs using Basic Black and whatever colors you would like – I used Kiwi Kiss, Tangerine Tango and Elegant Eggplant…and you make the eyes and nose using 1/2″ and 1/4″ Circle Punches. You then attach the eyes and nose to the front of one of the scallops, put together the layers of the legs and attach them to the back of the front scallop…attach this to your peppermint patty and attach the remaining scallop to the back of the patty – and voila – what an adorable way to present a treat :-)

You could use different candies, for example chocolate discs would work great – or if you want a candy free option, you could use them as pencil toppers…or use them to decorate goodie bags…put a pin on the back to make badges…this cute idea has inspired me and I have come up with a few more little characters of my own which I will be posting tomorrow…you can find the punches that I used on pg 188 of the Fall Winter Catalog – they are a great fun way to make all sorts of embellishments for cards and scrapbook pages, and I will be compiling a collection of the fun things you can make with punches in the coming weeks…
