Simple on Saturday…

I decided to make a simple card today and with Valentine’s Day less than a month away I decided to go with a heart theme…

And then I saw a pretty paper doiley and that gave me inspiration for the mat of my simple card…and the rest came from some fun new products featured in the Occasions Mini Catalog including the gorgeous new Red Glimmer Paper…

Do you like my little paper doiley inspired mat?  At first I made one using White card stock but that was a bit stark and so I decided to soften it up and use Very Vanilla instead which suits it much better…

I die cut my big scallop circle using my Big Shot and Scallop Circles #2 Die – in case you are wondering, this scallop circle measures 3 1/2″ in diameter – and to texture it, ran it back through the Big Shot using the Petals-a-Plenty Embossing Folder (pg 214).

Like that gorgeous sparkly red heart? SO easy to make using the brand new Red Glimmer Paper that you can find on pg 7 of the Occasions Mini – I simply used my Full Heart Punch to punch out my shape and attached it with Dimensionals to my mat.  That glimmer paper is wonderful to work with – it cuts easily and there is no glitter falling off as you do so – all glitter stays firmly attached to the paper!

All of my other embellishments are from the Occasions Mini Catalog – my brown scripted background is a piece of Designer Series Paper from Botanical Gazette, my beautiful key is from Trinket Keys and my sentiment is from the stamp set You’re a Gem – I LOVE how that sentiment fits perfectly with those keys…and the little heart is simply punched out of DSP using the Heart to Heart Punch.

I love how it turned out – using Embossing Folders means that you can get some very neat effects onto your cards with very little effort – I use them on almost everything I make and they are a great investment – once you have them, you have them forever – they don’t run out like patterned papers do…

With Sale-a-bration just around the corner, it’s a great time to think about adding a few Embossing Folders to your shopping list…and maybe that Big Shot you’ve had your eye on – buy a Big Shot during Sale-a-bration and you’ll get two free items for that purchase alone!

If you’d also like a copy of the Occasions Mini Catalog let me know and I will include that with it!

I gotta comment too, this is a gorgeous card! I love how you made your own “doily” with the embossing. Love the pearl holding the key! Yep, all in the details! Gotta get some of that glitter paper! Love the colors! Thanks for sharing!

Sarah, what a gorgeous card. I had that awe moment asking myself why didn’t I think of that for creating the doily look. That red glimmer paper really pops. Awesome!

  • This card is so cute! I love the way you made your own doily!!!!
