This is just a cool 6″ x 6″ sized Scrapbook that is fun to make and has lots of ‘pages’ and flaps for you to add your photos, embellishments and sentiments to.

It is very economical since it uses just 3 sheets of 12″x12″ cardstock along with 5 sheets of patterned 12″x12″ paper – any of the Stampin Up Designer Series Papers would be just perfect for this project as the sheets of paper in each package co-ordinate beautifully with each other and with the solid cardstocks, as you will see from mine below…

I used papers from Paisley Petals DSP to decorate mine and here is a photo showing you all of the panels and flaps inside that you get to decorate…there are LOTS of them…in fact 9 full 6″ square panels and 16 sides of the flaps!

And the great bit is that you can theme it for any holiday, vacation or event just by changing your papers.

Here is my tutorial so that you can make your very own Flappy Scrapbook – at the end of this tutorial you will find a printable version too so that you can print it out and keep it for reference.

To get a closer view of the photos below, click on them – this will enlarge each for easier viewing.

Cut 6 pieces of cardstock to be sized 6″ x 12″ – they can be all the same color or you can cut one piece in a different color for your scrapbook cover.

Take one piece that you will use for the cover and place into your score tool or paper trimmer with score blade inserted, with the longest edge along the top – score at 2 1/2″, 3″, 9″ and 9 1/2″ – and then set to one side…

To make the inside panels & flaps of the scrapbook:

Next take your 5 pieces of 6×12 cardstock and score each at 3″ and 9″…

When you have done all 5 pieces, this is what you will have…

Then fold along all score lines – use your bone folder to ensure that you have nice crisp folds…

For the purposes of demonstrating this to you, I have numbered my panels from 1-5 – you can do the same if you wish but it isn’t essential…

Take panel no. 1 and apply a very strong adhesive tape such as Sticky strip to the back of the right panel…

Line up panel no. 2 next to it so that two small panels are lined up, peel off the backing strip from the tape and push those small panels together…

And here they are firmly adhered in place…

Repeat for panels 3, 4 & 5…

Until you have adhered them all together in one long line…

Now to fold your scrapbook together:

You are going to make some panels ‘hidden’ behind flaps and some open.

Fold two small flaps over panel 1…

Fold two small flaps over panel 3…

And fold two small flaps over panel 5…

You will see that you have panels 1, 3 & 5 ‘hidden’ behind flaps and panels 2 & 4 open…

Next fold panel 1 in over panel 2…and at the other end fold panel 5 in over panel 4…push down firmly to create nice firm folds…

Then fold one end in over the center panel, again pushing firmly…

And then fold one panel in over the other so that you are left with a square – push down firmly again to make it as compact as you can…

To add the cover:

Take your cover and fold firmly along all 4 score lines and cut 1 yard of ribbon…

You are going to adhere your to the back cover and make slits on the sides to thread it out through.

To make it easy to demonstrate to you, I have drawn on my cover to show you the placement but you do not have to do this…

Find the center point of the large back panel – to do this I measured in 3″ from the score line and because my ribbon is 1/2″ thick, I measured down from the top edge by 2 3/4″…

You need to make a slit each side that your ribbon can thread through – so using a craft knife and self-healing mat make a small cut down on each score line as shown by my red arrows above.

This is what your slits will look like…this is the reverse side of my cover…

Use a very strong adhesive tape to adhere your ribbon to the inside of the back cover and thread through each of the slits that you cut…

This is what it will look like from behind…

To add the scrapbook ‘insides’:

Turn your scrapbook over and apply Sticky Strip to the back of it…

And then carefully position it over the cover and push down firmly…

Close the front two small flaps and tie with a bow to hold it together…

To decorate:

This is the fun bit!

Using your 5 sheets of patterned Designer Series Papers cut 20 squares measuring 5 3/4″ square.

Choose which to use to decorate the large panels and adhere in place – then cut the papers you want to use for the flaps to be 5 3/4″ x 2 3/4″…

And then to cover the front two flaps you need to cut 2 pieces of paper to measure 5 3/4″ x 2 1/2″.

Here is a photo of the inside of part of mine:

Finally add your photos, sentiments, journaling, embellishments and anything else you wish to decorate it with…and it’s now ready for giving!

You can decorate your scrapbook panels and flaps before or after adhering it to the cover – I like to do mine before I add it to the cover so that I can move it around more easily.
