We still don’t have a lot of leaves changing color yet here in Central Texas but it was chilly this morning and I cannot wait to see all of our Red Oaks in their fall glory…
Because I am impatient (!) I decided to make some beautiful sponged leaves using the Autumn Accents Bigz Die to hang in my Stamping Studio so that at least it can feel like the Fall inside the house! I loved how they turned out, and so I decided to incorporate some of those leaves onto a card…
THE AUTUMN ACCENTS DIE IS ON SALE THROUGH MONDAY FOR JUST $16.46 (reg $21.95) – this is a FAB deal – click HERE to find it!
These leaves look complex to make but they could not be easier – I promise – all you need is a die cut shape, an ink pad and a sponge or dauber and you are set – think of the beautiful Thanksgiving table settings and wreath you could make using these leaves…see below for a link to my FREE Printable Tutorial showing you how to make them!
AND I HAVE SOME BLOG CANDY UP FOR GRABS – I AM GIVING AWAY A TABLESCAPE SIMPLY CREATED KIT TO ONE LUCKY WINNER – SCROLL DOWN TO ENTER!
I love how they turned out – they have an aged, vintage look about them and are fun & easy to make…
The card base…is Early Espresso onto which I layered a piece of Crumb Cake that I textured using the Woodgrain Embossing Folder (pg 190)…
Sarah’s note – instead of stamping a pattern onto your die cut leaves, you can use the Woodgrain embossing folder to pattern them which is also a very neat look!
The sentiment…is from the set Truly Grateful which you can find on pg 19 of the Holiday Catalog and I stamped it using Early Espresso ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock – I die cut that banner shape using a die from Circle Thinlets and added it to my card using Dimensionals.
The leaves…gorgeous, aren’t they? They are all made using the Autumn Accents Bigz Die (pg 192) and various autumnal shades of cardstock – I stamped a background onto each of them using the En Francais background stamp (pg 100) and then sponged on colors using Sponge Daubers (pg 164) – those daubers fit onto your finger tips and give you fabulous control – the colors I used on my leaves are:
- Maple leaf – Crushed Curry cardstock – the background is stamped using Cajun Craze ink – I sponged Cajun Craze onto most of the leaf and used Early Espresso on the edges
- Oak leaf – Cajun Craze cardstock – the background is stamped using Early Espresso ink – I sponged Early Espresso around the edges
- Small leaf – Soft Suede cardstock – the background is stamped using Soft Suede ink – I sponged Soft Suede & Early Espresso around the edges
You can experiment with different colors of cardstocks & inks – it is fun!!! For a finishing touch to my leaves, I tied a piece of Linen Thread to the top of my maple leaf and just love how these leaves all look together…

Hi Sarah-
Just love your version of the fall leaves!
My fav about Thanksgiving is…Thanksgiving…
for all that the Lord has Blessed me with!
Love the EF tip for leaves. Will be trying that soon. My favorite thing about Thanksgiving is having all the family around the table with all that wonderful food!! Especially stuffing made with my mom’s recipe!
I love the look of the text stamped on the leaves, along with the sponged ink. It’s very elegant. My favorite part of Thanksgiving is the way it brings friends and family together and reminds us to be grateful for the many blessings we have received.
My favorite part of Thanksgiving is being with family and of course the turkey with lots of stuffing!
