My favorite holiday card colors are silver & blue – just love that frosty look – and when you add in some black – BAM – you get a fabulous bold card that is softened with a splash of color…

I recently participated in a team swap and one of my team members – Kathy Falk – created a beautiful card using the stamp set Festival of Trees in a black & gold theme – I loved this card so much that I decided to make some of my own to mail out and also to make a silver version too…

And here it is…you can find Kathy’s original version further down…

You can find Festival of Trees and the co-ordinating Tree Punch on pg 24 of the Holiday Catalog – and again, you can buy the Stamps & Punch as a BUNDLE at JUST $27.95 for both of them which saves you 15%!

The card base…is simply Basic Black onto which is layered a piece of Silver Foil Sheet (pg 193) – very hard to photograph this foil paper as it is just like a mirror!!!

The white layer…is Whisper White and I stamped the words using a stamp from the set Wonderous Wreath (pg 9 Holiday Catalog) and then textured that layer using the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder (pg 226) to give a fabulous snowy background – LOVE that random dotty snow look!

The ribbon…is a piece of the beautiful Lost Lagoon 3/8″ Silky Taffeta Ribbon (pg 22 Holiday Catalog) and I simply tied it around and then used Dimensionals to add the layer to the card base.

The patterned trees…the two patterned trees are stamped using stamps from Festival of Trees and to get a very crisp black look, they are heat embossed – to do this I stamped them using Versamark Ink (pg 210), sprinkled on Black Embossing Powder and heat set it using my Heat Tool (pg 213) – I then punched them out using the perfectly co-ordinating Tree Punch (pg 24 Holiday Catalog).

The solid tree…I simply inked up a piece of scrap cardstock with my Versamark Ink pad, sprinkled on Black Embossing Powder, heat set it and then used the Tree Punch to punch out one solid black tree shape…click on the photo below for a larger version…

The finishing touch…is a sweet silver star made using the star punch from  Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack (pg 222)…

And that is one beautiful, elegant holiday card.

Here is Kathy Falk’s beautiful card that inspired me to make my silver version…

Do you have an Elf on the Shelf in your house

We do…ours arrived yesterday and has already gotten into some mischief! Yes, he looks a little different than the traditional Elf on the Shelf but he still gets up to some naughty antics no less…and last year he arrived with a small Pinecone buddy that goes everywhere with him!!!

The girls love his daily (or twice daily!) antics and today is no different…this is where we found him today with his Pinecone Buddy…
