My favorite colors to work with are browns and pinks…and as it is starting to feel Spring-like here in Texas, I decided to use the hostess set Dream a Little to come up with a card perfect for this time of year which also incorporates my favorite colors…
I used Very Vanilla for my card base – I took a piece of Close to Cocoa cardstock and using a flourish stamp from the stamp set Priceless I stamped it randomly across in Close to Cocoa Ink. Using a craft knife, metal ruler and self-healing mat, I cut out a rectangle in the center and I used my Scallop Edge Punch and Piercing Tool to make a cute border. I tied a piece of Kiwi Kiss Satin Ribbon around this and then a piece of 1/4″ Chocolate Chip Grosgrain on the top, tied in a knot. I stamped the bird onto a piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock and cut it out – making sure to make cuts down into the wings and tail to make a feathered effect – and attached it to the front.
On a piece of pink paper from Bella Rose DSP I stamped the flower using Kiwi Kiss Ink for the stem and Rose Red Ink for the flower. I colored this in using Watercolor Wonder Crayons and a Blender Pen (I used Old Olive, Regal Rose and Rose Red Crayons).
To assemble the card, I cut and attached a piece of stamped Close to Cocoa along with a piece of patterned paper from Candy Lane DSP to the vanilla base – I adhered the pink paper with the flower stamped on it onto the Vanilla base being sure to line it up so that the flower would show through the window. I then attached the piece of Close to Cocoa stamped cardstock to the base using Dimensionals to give it a lift.
Finally, I took a piece of Twill Tape and stamped ‘Dream a little’ onto it in Chocolate Chip Ink and wrapped it around the Vanilla base and secured it with Glue Dots.
And there you have a sweet, elegant card that you could use for any occasion by changing the sentiment – I think it would make a lovely Mother’s Day card too :-)
