In a VERY cute way!  This card contains it’s own little gift to take out and use – a bookmark!

I just love this card and with Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner, you could use holiday papers and stamps to make these for teachers, friends & family –  imagine a Santa, Reindeer or Snowman peeking through that hole – CUTE!

Please read on for more details plus the link to the printable tutorial showing you how to make this and details of this week’s Blog Candy…

I wanted to create the look of an owl peeking out of a hole in a tree trunk – to make the bark effect I used paper from Woodland Walk DSP but you could get a similar look using the Woodgrain Background Stamp.  My owl fits nicely into the hole I made using the 1 3/4″ Circle Punch

See the little green tab at the top?  That is the tab on the top of the bookmark – pull on that tab and the owl bookmark slides easily out of the card…I made the tab using the Round Tab Punch and a piece of Old Olive that I textured using my Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder

The owl?  I used that adorable Two Step Owl Punch to make him – his body is Early Espresso and his belly uses paper from Playdate DSP…his eyes are attached using Dimensionals to make them pop out a little…please click on the photos to view them larger…

When you slide out the bookmark you see the rest…my owl is on a layer of Crumb Cake and I used a stamp from the set Apple Blossoms for my sentiment which I punched out using the Modern Label Punch

Other details on my card…I used a Chocolate Chip base and a layer of So Saffron that I edged using the Scallop Edge Border Punch and made holes in using my Paper Piercing Tool.  I added a layer of green patterned paper, again from Playdate DSP and added my ‘trunk’ onto that.

I wanted to add ribbon but also wanted to keep with a natural look, and so added Hemp Twine that I knotted in front.  My sentiment?  The same stamp from Apple Blossoms which I punched out using the Decorative Label Punch in the Holiday Mini.  I think it turned out super cute and I will be making many more of these!
