Welcome to 3-D Thursday and this week it was my turn to create a little something and I came up with a way to package those fun little ‘in a mug’ cake mixes perfect for Valentine’s Day!

Further down this post you will find a link to the FREE Project Sheet that has step by step instructions & color photos that you can save to your computer or print out and have on hand for easy reference PLUS you will find a full list of Supplies used to make this at the end of this post.

And here it is…a pouch of cake mix packaged in a cute but really easy to do way…

Easy to do because the pretty polka dotted wrapper you see is simply a Kraft Pillow Box that comes ready to use – no die cutting or expensive tools required – just a little bit of alteration!

You get a pack of 10 of them for $5 making these sweet treat wrappers just 50c each – a great thrifty way to gift some Valentine yummies!  Click HERE to find them in the store!

Take your pillow box, trim off a thin strip, add another couple of notches and add your decor – it really is that easy to create and you can find full details in my Project Sheet below.

This is how I blinged mine up – I added a pretty trim to the top using the Decorative Ribbon Punch and made a BIG center panel to really stand out using the largest Stitched Shapes Circle Die and a couple of fantastic sentiment stamps…

I found that fab big ‘Happiness is a cup of…’ stamp in the set Coffee Cafe but of course I wanted to theme it for cake and not coffee and so I omitted it and added the word ‘cake’ which I found in the set Birthday Banners – FULL details on how to do this with a stamp using masking tape is also in the Project Sheet.

I found that Poppy Parade Ink matched brilliantly to the red wording on the cake pouch – don’t you just love when you can get a match like that?!  It helps to make projects look so professional!

I added a couple of textured hearts – the small one is from Corrugated Elements and the big one I die cut and textured using the Softly Falling Embossing Folder…

I used Poppy Parade Textured Ribbon to wrap around and hold together my pouch and finished with a knot on the front…

I like using the Duncan Hines Perfect Size for 1 cake & brownie mixes for this type of project because they have the instructions on how to cook them on each individual packet along with allergy information (some other brands don’t) – my local grocery store carries them in the cake mixes aisle but if you can’t find them in yours, amazon.com is to the rescue and has them here!

At first when I saw postings about single serve treats in a mug for craft fairs, I thought that was sort of a dumb idea. Well, now that I have seen the light (from your creation) and had time to mull it over, I like the idea. I left a huge comment on Susan’s blog about this. I was even more impressed with the selection at our grocery store. Ghiradelli ones for single brownies, blueberry muffins, and coffee cake as well as regular cakes. Some even included a glaze to drizzle on. I bought a carrot cake one to try too before I give it to a person who I think will really enjoy it. I am giving her a $5 gift card too for fancy coffees at a nearby gift shop. I know she loves to go there but hates to splurge. She has a one chair beauty shop in her basement. She would not accept any payment for washing my husband’s hair after surgery a couple of times.

So, I am looking forward to making this up as I have this stamp set too and some of these pillow boxes etc. so I am all set. I just want to try the product before I give it to her to make sure it is good!

Thanks Sarah for another awesome project to work on!
