Once back on the buses we headed off…I noticed that we had crossed the state line into Arizona and we were all trying to work out where we were going…
Then the very fun Kellie Sue told us that we were going for a float down the river through Glen Canyon…please click on any photo below for a larger view…
First we had to board special buses to take us through a LONG tunnel to get to where we could get board the boats…we had to wear hard hats to walk down the gangway to get there…here is the lovely Selma leading our group…
Here we are walking down to the water – some boats are already away…
Once on the boats we knew the views we would see would be absolutely stunning…here is a look back at the dam and the bridge…isn’t that amazing? And what a beauitful day for floating down the river – the temperature was in the high 80s and what a treat after coming from a long hot Texas summer…
So off we went and wow were the views amazing…
We passed people fishing & camping…we saw fish, birds & even wild horses…and the silence and feeling of peace down there was amazing…
To give you some idea of the scale & magnitude, at this point we were 2 miles away from that large canyon wall ahead…this was my favorite part of the trip because of the temperature change – when you are out of the sun and in the shadow of the canyon walls, it was dramatically cooler…
We were meandering down the river for around 3 hours and of course the trip came to an end all too soon…we left the boats at the point at which the Grand Canyon begins, and this is the view of that beginning of that amazing canyon – wow…
Because it was a long trip back to St George, we had packed dinners in these beautiful cooler bags – and of course they were beautifully presented on tablecloths with flowers and hand stamped tags…inside was a delicious feast that we got to eat on our way back to the hotel whilst watching a movie, chatting and playing more fun games…
And we returned to find a lovely pillow gift waiting on our beds…a beautiful photograph of Horseshoe Bend, just part of the river that we floated on today – complete with an inspirational note on the back to remind us of our experiences today…
That’s it for Friday…wow what an experience and one I will always treasure…floating down the river made me feel grounded and most definitely inspired…
